Missed Encounters Pop up Art Show - Season of Love

This month's Mini Fest in partnership with HOSA is called the Season of Love, what a better time to celebrate the Craigslist Missed Connections feed! And we are celebrating it with a pop up art show made up of pieces based on individual posts.

We are hoping to get submissions from all areas of the arts.

CALL FOR ENTRIES:
Open to any kind of art! Physical, music, dance, writing, poetry! You decide!

If you would like to sell the art, you are welcome to do that. If you are interested in selling your work during the show, contact us at info@biscuitsprings.com

Physical Art due Friday Feb. 10.

We will be having the "reception/performance/reading" on Feb 11 in conjunction with our Love Stories Story telling from 5-7! Following the storytelling, Della Memoria will be playing!

Your piece should be based on a single missed connection. We earlier stated that they must be from this area, but we noticed it is a little limited. We are opening it up to all the missed connections... but they should be current... so no searching the best of missed connections and finding one from 2012!

Please be sure to print out/send us a link to the missed connection you are bringing so we can have it displayed with your piece or so folks can read about your performance/story or what ever.

Alright! I think that is it. We look forward to seeing all that you make!
If you would like for us to choose one for you we will. Just let us know. If you have already requested it, i will try to get it to you today!
Any questions... Let us know. Any suggestions... Let us know! thanks y'all.

Also! Share this with anyone you think might be interested!

And JUST IN CASE:
Please no meaness in the pieces, if it is possible. We try to only put out nice-ish stuff!
Also, no nudie pics... even if they are in the post.

The event will take place in the Greenhouse and will be filmed to share online. The Season of Love is part of a 4 month long program hosted by HOSA (Historic Ocean Springs Association) and the Greenhouse to bring people together.

Davis Coen - Music on the Lawn

Don't miss Davis Coen, a singer songwriter from the Memphis area!

Coen has been touring the U.S. since his teens, either as a solo guitar and vocal act, or commonly accompanied by bass and drums configuration. He has shared a bill or opened for many of the classic blues artists who influenced his music; including James Cotton, Junior Wells, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, Big Jack Johnson, T-Model Ford, and David “Honeyboy” Edwards. He has also shared bills with such non-blues performers as Richie Havens, Mountain, Eric Burdon, Tito Puente and Toots & The Maytals.

His most recent accomplishments have been daily airplay on XM/Sirius Satellite radio; inclusion as featured artist twice on Dan Aykroyd’s ‘House Of Blues Radio Hour’; and NPR’s ‘Morning Edition’ and ‘World Cafe’ programs. Also his music is credited on the DVD release of Martin Scorsese’s PBS special ‘The Blues’; the truTV reality TV show ‘Lizard Lick Towing’, independent films ‘Fress Cut Grass’ (2004) and ‘Mental Scars’ (2009); and on the DVD documentary about the music of the Hillcountry Mississippi blues matriarch Jesse Mae Hemphill, titled ‘Dare You To Do It Again’.

The Strangled Darlings

Please join us for an afternoon with this amazing pair of Musicians. You may remember, we did a last minute notice show a few months ago, and it was wonderful! Now we are giving you a little time to plan!

The music is built on deep sense of rhythm and groove. Mandolin like you’ve rarely ever seen, somewhere between a snare drum and a slalom of notes. The solid body custom cello weaves an intricate counter melody and and percussive groove. The voices and the lyrics are the hidden third member of the band and the story behind the music. The songs work with nontraditional subjects for inspiration. Some song subjects include: the works of great authors (Faulkner, William Blake, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Donald Bartheleme, Anna Ahkmatova) as well as witchcraft in the Civil War, the morality of Somali piracy and the media impact of Neil Armstrong.

Ruth Acuff and Mary Ellen Kirk

Ancient traditions meet modernist indie-folk. For a listening session guaranteed to optimize your emotional wellness, harpist Ruth Acuff (kin to country music legend Roy Acuff) brings her unique dreamscapes to take you to a place where you lose yourself, or if you prefer, find yourself.

Merry Ellen's music is thoughtful & evocative, daring her audience to consider the world in a new light. Her lyrics weave tales of heartbreak, fragility, tension & resolution, over a playful piano/vocal fabric likened to that of Tori Amos, Regina Spektor, & Ingrid Michaelson.
